Silicone Toys Care Guide

Your Toy

All of the silicone toys and products made by Twin Tail Creations are made of platinum-cure silicones. These types of silicones are high-performance, two-component rubbers known for high tear strength, and long-term stability, that are certified skin safe. The physical properties of the silicone we use makes them very durable and very "stretchy". Our toys will stretch many times their original size without tearing and will rebound to their original form without distortion.

It is possible your collection includes toys made of other types of silicone (such as tin-cure silicone) or other materials. Where possible, we will try to dispel common myths about toy care that come from handling these other, lower-quality materials. When we use the term 'silicone' from here on out, we are referring to platinum-cure Silicone, unless otherwise specified.

With the right care routine, your silicone products will maintain their integrity, appearance, and functionality for years or decades to come. Proper maintenance will ensure the lifespan of your items and keep them safe and hygienic to use.

What Lubricants Can Be Used

In general, most lubricants are safe to use with our toys, and with platinum-cure silicone in general. We have not seen reactions with water-based, silicone-based, hybrid, or oil-based lubricants from any major manufacturer. If your collection includes toys made of materials other than platinum based silicone, silicone-based, hybrid, or oil-based lubricants can cause damage to other types of materials.

Cleaning Your Silicone Toys

Start by rinsing your silicone toys with warm water and soap immediately after use, washing the surface thoroughly. Pay special attention to any textured areas or crevices where residue might accumulate.

If your dishwasher has a sanitize option, where the water will reach boiling temperatures, you can run our toys through the dishwasher. Do not run with a pod, as they will over contain bleach and other strong detergents. Ensure floppy toys will not touch the heating elements.

You can use a soft cloth or soft sponge to gently scrub the surface of your toys. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh scrubbing motions, as these can damage the silicone.

Drying and Storage

After washing, pat your silicone toys dry with a clean, lint-free towel or other soft cloth. Allow them to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area before storing. Moisture trapped inside can promote mold or mildew growth, so ensure everything is completely dry.

Store your toys in a cool, dry place. While platinum-cure silicone is non-porous, storing it directly against toys of different materials (like TPE or 'Jelly' rubber) can lead to plasticizer migration, which may stain or degrade either item. Using individual, breathable bags is an excellent way to keep your collection pristine.

What to Avoid

Never use harsh chemicals, bleach, or industrial strength detergents. Avoid sharp objects; while our silicone is tear-resistant, a small puncture or 'nick' can create a stress point that may expand if the toy is stretched significantly. Similarly, avoid abrasive surfaces which can create micro-fissures for bacteria that are difficult to clean.

Periodically inspect your silicone toys for signs of wear, discoloration, or damage. If you notice persistent discoloration that won't come clean, or if the material feels strange or sticky, it's a sign that replacement may be necessary.

By following these care guidelines, you'll keep your silicone toys in excellent condition and ensure they remain a reliable part of your collection for a long time.
